As children, we believed we could
Do anything
Think anything
Be anything
Endless opportunities
Never confined
Restrained
Committed to one thing
We spent what felt like lifetimes
Cradled in fantasies of how our lives would be
In blissful ignorance, we saw no challenges to our dreams
Aspirations
Desires
With our hopes, our bright futures were swamped with intermittent light
So how is it now that we’ve lost our innocence?
It begs the question of why our childhood dreams
Have not endured our life experience
Whatever happened to those future ambitions?
These fantasies of our lives
That we so longed for
Our mind created our future
In such wonderful paintings
As adults we’ve realised the error of our naivety
As we slowly let the painful reality sink in, engulf us in our hopelessness.
